MBBS (Hons I) Physician Trainee Royal Perth Hospital
Delara Javat is a junior doctor who is passionate about improving the health and well-being of the Australian community. Delara graduated from the James Cook University School of Medicine in 2015 with an academic medal and the Whole Time Medical Specialist Prize for gaining the highest overall result throughout the degree. During her degree, she gained invaluable experience in regional and remote Australia including places such as Mt. Isa, Boulia and Barcaldine in Queensland and Bunbury and Bridgetown in Western Australia. She also completed a specialist elective placement in Canberra after being awarded the John James Foundation Scholarship in 2015. Delara subsequently completed her internship in Mackay Base Hospital, Queensland in 2016 before returning home to Perth, Western Australia. Delara currently works in Royal Perth Hospital where she is admitted into the Royal Australian College of Physicians’ Physician Training program to pursue her specialist education.
Delara has a keen interest in medical research and undertaking evidence-based medicine. During her internship, she was awarded First Class Honours for primary research regarding the advances in interventional cardiology in the North Queensland Region. This research was presented in Brisbane and Singapore and is currently undergoing finalization for publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, PLOS One. Together with her supervisors, Delara published a paper in 2017 titled: Early Versus Delayed Invasive Strategies in High-Risk Non-ST Elevation Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients- A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomised Controlled Trials in the Heart, Lung and Circulation Journal. This paper has been invited for submission for the journal’s Best Review Prize 2018.
Delara hopes to continue discovering communities around Australia through her work as a doctor and encourage other young women in pursuing medicine and research alike.
